I can't believe I'm actually here, in the land of the Tudor Dynasty, the Black Death, and all the history I can soak up!!
My mom and I departed from IAH around 6pm Houston time on Wednesday afternoon. We didnt quite know what to expect security-wise with increased precautions surrrounding electronic devices. However, all was business as usual and we made it to our gate within about 30-45 minutes of arriving at the airport.
The flight itself was a little rough, neither of us got more than 20 minutes of sleep on the 9 hour flight... yuck! We eneded up watching Divergent together (which my mom loved!) and afterwards I watched Frozen... I had to restrain myself from belting out "Let It Go" in front of the other 747 passengers... somehow I was able to manage.
After arriving in London, we breezed through customs and took the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station, from where we walked 10 minutes to our hotel. We dropped off our bags (couldnt check in until late) and headed to Portabello Road to window shop and get lunch. After our afternoon excursion (that included walking about 3 miles), we returned to the hotel (on the Tube with our newly acquired Oyster cards!) and took a brief nap... where we both passed out because we were so exhausted.
When we awoke, we showered and prepped for our evening excursion to the middle of London and our ride on the London Eye. The view was fabulous and so expansive! Even with the setting sun and distant fog, we could see everything while floating over the Thames River. I definitely recommend a ride on the London Eye to anyone coming to London! We got some fabulous photos of Big Ben and Parliament along the river bank.
Afterwards, we had a fabulous Italian dinner at a restaurant near our hotel. Red wine & pasta, you know this girl was in heaven!
Internet at the hotel is a little slow, but for now these pictures will have to do!
